NEO

OVERVIEW

NEO is an independent Southeast Asian publication that intersects science, nature, and fashion in a culturally relevant perspective for the youth. Its debut issue "The First Degree" explores the concept of symbiosis translated into three unified chapters: Parasitism, Commensalism, Mutualism. NEO invites the audience to rethink their interactions with the environment through first reflecting on how they themselves have lived in tandem with nature.

About the project

In a world where humanity and nature is often kept separate or put against each other, NEO questions the very relationships that tie us together - grounded in tension, virtue, and hope.

What was the problem?

Many Gen Zs find science hard to understand, complicated, and boring.

What was the problem?

Many Gen Zs find science hard to understand, complicated, and boring.

What were the insights?

  1. Gen Zs are more interested in the environment - even adopting what's called 'climate anxiety' in recent years.

  2. Gen Zs are visual-oriented, meaning they value engaging forms of media as compared to monotonous information.

  3. Gen Zs are aware of the planet's condition, but they do not know how to process their feelings and translate it into action.

What was my solution?

By creating a form of media that uses science to explain the environment and express it through fashion, NEO aids scientific conceptual learning in a language that speaks to Gen Z in order to make them more aware of relevant environmental issues.
